The names in this story have been changed.

Jen was only 3 years old when she was molested by an 11-year-old boy. It shouldn’t have happened, but her father provided her very little supervision, and her mother was a methadone-addicted alcoholic with bi-polar disorder and depression.

To give some insight into her mother, she smoked marijuana for her entire pregnancy with Jen — even though it’s widely known that smoking can have negative impacts to newborns, including low-weight, birth defects, and an inhibition to the baby’s ability to learn.

By the time Jen was 7 years old, in 2012, she was exhibiting major signs of PTSD (Posttraumatic Stress Disorder). She also suffered from insomnia, had chronic anxiety, suicidal thoughts, and had self-destructive habits and outbursts at school that were destroying any chance of her living a normal life.

In 2012, Jen went in for evaluation. It was soonfound that Jen displayed disobedient, aggressive, & sexually inappropriate behaviors. She couldn’t sleep alone and was constantly restless and tired.

Initial Prescription – Conventional Medication

Jen was prescribed melatonin (1mg/night), and worked for a while. She slept longer. She was also given inositol 3 times daily, and fish oil for anxiety.

They tried giving her clonidine, but that gave her hallucinations so it wasn’t continued. Instead they tried imipramine for anxiety, and it appeared to have a positive effect. It was at this time that counseling began, and Jen stayed in it for the next 36 months.

Fast forward 3 years. Now in 2015. Jen was reevaluated and, even though she was on the melatonin, and magnesium, and benadryl, she still suffered from chronic anxiety and still had outbursts at school. Her life was still a waking nightmare.

It was at this time, in 2015, that CBD was considered as a potential treatment option. In March 2015, CBD was oficially recommended for anxiety and insomnia. Jen’s grandmother, now her legal guardian due to her mother’s destructive behaviors and addictions, gave full consent and support.

CBD Treatment Begins

Initial trials of 25mg of CBD supplements were administered at bedtime, with 6 to 12 mg of CBD spray during the day as-needed for anxiety.

A noticeable, gradual increase in sleep quality were noted. Jen’s anxiety went down. And after 5 months, Jen was able to sleep on her own in her own bedroom for most nights, and she was handling her school without any difficulties.

No side effects to the CBD have been noticed, and Jen has gradually improved ever since.

Jen’s grandmother was interviewed afterwards. She said it was the first time Jen was able to sleep in her own room, thanks to the CBD. Some anxiety remains, but it isn’t nearly as intense as before and Jen is a lot easier to be around. She says her granddaughter’s behavior is much better after taking CBD.

The key takeaway from this study is the common underlying evidence that CBD helps to fight anxiety and seems to be a dependable treatment for sleep. It’s a unique case study because Jen was on prescription medication (all sorts, taking up to 3-4 different medications), and had limited and temporary results. But soon after taking one natural supplement (CBD), it fought the bulk of her symptoms better than any of the combined medications before.

CBD still hasn’t been tested in a long-term scenario, but it certainly has it’s place in helping human beings to live a healthier life and combat all kinds of illnesses and impediments to daily living.
